At a conference Monday in Albuquerque, Governor Susana Martinez joined "New Mexico Head Start."

The conference is focusing on the best ways to teach New Mexico kids starting at an early age. "Our kids in New Mexico are very important to me," said Martinez,  "from the very beginning from the first time that they walk into a classroom and meet their first teacher all the way through hopefully the university."

New Mexico has head start programs for kids starting as early as 3 years old. There are also early head start programs for pregnant women, infants and toddlers.
