Navajo man pleads guilty in hawk tail case

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A Navajo man has pleaded guilty to selling and bartering parts of a Swainson's hawk tail without getting permission from the U.S. Department of Interior.
Prosecutors say 47-year-old Daniel Chee Walley of Chambers, Ariz., entered his plea Monday in federal court in Albuquerque.
Walley was arrested in September on accusations that he sold and traded parts of the hawk tail in violation of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.
The act makes it unlawful to possess or sell any migratory bird or part of such a bird. Prosecutors say the offense happened in western New Mexico's McKinley County in January 2009.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says Walley faces up to two years in prison and a $250,000 fine. His sentencing has yet to be scheduled.
