Students from 11 New Mexico schools will launch 21 rockets Tuesday as part of the Air Force Research Laboratory La Luz Academy's TECH Flight for middle school students.

Rockets will be assembled and prepared for liftoff at 9 a.m. and will be launched in waves of three at the Albuquerque Rocket Society's launch site on 45th Avenue between 8th and 9th Streets in Rio Rancho beginning at about 10 a.m., with all liftoffs completed by 1:30 pm.

The rockets have four inch diameters, are approximately six feet long, and can reach an estimated altitude of 2,000 feet.

As part of the Academy's TECH Flight, the students have spent the past month building their rockets, and then using modeling and simulation software to estimate their rocket's performance.

They then can compare the anticipated rocket flight paths with the data collected from the actual launches.

KOB will be at the launches - check back later for KOB's coverage.
