A paraplegic man is in the hospital after spending days dragging himself down a dirt road near Shiprock.

49-year-old Ricky Gilmore said he was hitchhiking last week when he was picked up by a couple.

He said they left him without his wheelchair.

Gilmore dragged himself four miles over the course of three days.

He said three vehicles passed him on the road without stopping to help.

Gilmore is being treated at a Farmington hospital for acute kidney failure from dehydration along with a blood infection and a sprained wrist.
