As of Wednesday morning, the Midnight fire has grown to 323 acres and has burned to within ¼ mile from the Valle Vidal recreation area on the Questa Ranger District.

The fire is located 5-6 miles north and east of the town of Red River.

Active fire behavior is expected Wednesday with high winds from the west moving the fire in an easterly direction.

A cold front moving into the area on Thursday and Friday, with lower temperatures and higher humidities, will help to reduce fire behavior.

As a precautionary measure, campers in the Valle Vidal, McCrystal and Cimarron campgrounds are being asked to prepare to evacuate the campgrounds if necessary.

At this time no structures are being threatened.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

For continued fire information please call 575-758-6235 or 575-758-6233 at the Questa Ranger District where the Incident Command Post is located.
