Red flag warning in effect for area

Forest officials say what the area is seeing right now with all these different fires is actually not atypical for fall.
On days like today, with a red flag warning, the potential for danger is even higher.
the Midnight fire has already burned more than 320 acres as it continues moving closer to Red River.
As we transition from the monsoon season and into the cooler fall months, forest officials say stronger winds and less moisture also come along with it, making for prime conditions for fires anytime of the year in New Mexico.
New Mexico forestry official Dan Ware said, "As we get into the winter months it starts cooling off and people aren't really as mindful, maybe, as they could be or should be; that depending on the weather situation in New Mexico we could have a fire at any time during the year."
Ware also said the same rules apply now as they do in the summer when it comes to landscaping. Keep your weeds low and your grass trimmed so if there is a fire, fuels are kept to a minimum.
