Bear removed from tree in Santa Fe

A female bear was safely removed from a tree near the Santa Fe Police station just before noon Thursday.
Curious onlookers captured the moment as not one but two, tranquilizer darts sedated the bear.
The 225 pound bear was so big that when her body gave out a branch broke her fall. She was then moved to an inflated bed.
"We do find them in Santa Fe often but more toward High Park area," Benjamin Otero, Game and Fish Espanola District Officer, said. "This is the first bear that I've ever caught this far into town. I've never had a bear come this far. I think it followed the drainage ditch all the way down. that runs by Cerillos"
This is the second time this bear has been caught and tagged. The state Game and Fish Department has a 'three strike' policy.
"If it is a mother it can cause a little bit of human safety concern just because you do have cubs that will be present," Otero said. "This mother didn't have cubs."
Otero said the sighting could be the last of the year.
The bear will be relocated in the Jemez Mountains where she and others will hopefully go into hibernation very soon.
