Arrest made in Roatcap fire

A person is behind bars Thursday afternoon in connection to the Roatcap fire near Dolores, Colorado.

Shortly after the fire began, a person of interest was identified by the Montezuma County Sheriff's office and an investigation lead to the person's arrest.

The person faces a 4th degree arson charge which is a Class 4 felony. The arrested person is in custody with a $3,000.00 bond at the Montezuma County Sheriff’s Detention Center.

The department has not released the identity of the individual.

The Roatcap fire has burned 396 acres near Cortez and is 20 percent contained.

Officials said about 100 homes and other structures in the area are threatened.

The Montezuma County Fairgrounds is open for evacuated domestic animals and the Cortez Animal Shelter is taking in small evacuated pets.
