Some Albuquerque students are learning more about the Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos - or Day of the Dead.

Students from Valley Academy and Sandia Prep collaborated to create an art exhibit that brings together th holiday's history and intention.

Each student is creating a piece of art to honor a family member that has died..

"I did an alter for my grandpa and I put picture of him and I did some zempoalxochitl which is the flower of the dead and it's a way for me to remember my fallen grandpa who died about 17 years ago," Valley Academy senior Miguel Garcia said.

The students will showcase their work at an opening Nov. 2. at Valley Academy from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
