First-ever Navajo Nation gaming chief to resign

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. (AP) - The man who guided the development of casinos on the Navajo Nation is resigning.
Robert Winter announced Thursday that his last day as chief executive of the Navajo Nation Gaming Enterprise will be Jan. 1.
But he'll stay on board with the enterprise to help plan for the tribe's first casino in Arizona, which is expected to open next summer near Flagstaff.
Winter says it had been his goal to mentor a tribal member to replace him. The enterprise's chief financial officer, Derrick Watchman, will succeed him.
The tribe named Winter as its gaming chief in 2007. It opened its first casino near Gallup, N.M., the following year.
The Navajo Nation has two other casinos in New Mexico.
