The latest estimate from the Midnight fire burning near Red River shows the acreage burned by the fire has decreased from a previous estimate Thursday.

That's because more accurate mapping after an infrared flight reduced the area known to have burned.

The fire, which began Tuesday, has burned 363 acres in the Carson National Forest, 5-6 miles north and east of the town of Red River.

Thursday's estimate was 429 acres.

Preliminary investigation of the fire has determined that the fire was human caused though no arrests have been made.

An open house is scheduled Friday at the Community House in Red River, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

A presentation and photos will be included on the progression of the fire and a discussion on the current full fire suppression, confine and control strategy.

For continued fire information please call 575-758-6235 or 575-758-6233 at the Questa Ranger District where the Incident Command Post is located.
