Daycare owner faces sex abuse charges

A day care owner accused of inappropriately touching a 3-year-old boy faced a judge Sunday.

Dermot Newman faces criminal sexual penetration of a minor charges.

Police said the alleged incident occurred at his Peppermint Stick Preschool at Jefferson and Roma.

According to the criminal complaint, the boy told his mother "Mr. Newman bit him in his private area."

That's when his mother reported it to police.

Newman is being held on a $100,000 cash only bond at the county jail.
