There's a good chance the UNM football team will have to go with third string quarterback Quinton McCown for Saturday's game at UNLV.

Freshman Cole Gautsche suffered a neck injury in the first quarter against Fresno State.  He was taken to the hospital, but and MRI was negative.   Quarterback B.R. Holbrook suffered a separated shoulder in the second quarter and left the game.  Holbrook isn't expected back for a while and Gautsche is questionable at this point.  UNM head coach Bob Davie says Gautsche is day-to-day and "there's a chance" he could play.  This week the Lobos will plan like Gautsche is not going to be ready.

Davie knows he's running out of options.  "Whatever it is, if Lamaar Thomas is the quarterback or Kasey Carrier is the quarterback, we have to win," said Davie following Saturday's loss to Fresno State.

"It's your worst nightmare," said Davie of losing his 1st and 2nd string quarterbacks.  "Quinton McCown, I appreciate him but he's not quite ready for this," Davie added.

McCown finished the game 2-of-6 passing with one interception and one touchdown for a total of 18 yards.
