The Northeast Albuquerque house fire KOB Eyewitness News showed you Monday morning has left the homeowner of fifty years homeless. On the verge of collapsing, the city had to step in and tear the house down. They say it was just too dangerous.

"The whole thing is just sad. they lost everything in one night," neighbor Brenda Ortiz said. Ortiz was sad for the family. Just a day after the home nearly burned to the ground, the Albuquerque Safe City Strike Force red tagged it, and tore it down.

"For the safety of the community, the neighbors, the kids in the neighborhood we will bring it down to the ground today," said Joe Martinez of the Safe City Strike Force. Martinez said unoccupied homes are magnets for people who don't belong there. Considering the devastation left over after the fire Tuesday, the elderly homeowner, her son and grandson were lucky to get out alive, according to Martinez.

"We're fortunate in this fire that the three occupants that were inside were able to escape. But we don't need to leave it up in danger of collapsing on somebody else.," Martinez said.

They figure to have a lot of foot traffic through the neighborhood Wednesday night. Though Ortiz is sad for the family, she's happy to see it come down.

"I'm glad they are doing it. Especially because tomorrow is halloween. We'll have a lot of kids in the area," Ortiz said.
