A former Albuquerque Police officer will not find out until next year if his firing was warranted.

The hearing officer in the case is now expected to release his recommendation near the end of January.

The city's personnel board will then take that recommendation and make their decision at their board meeting in mid-February.

This all stems from a beating captured on surveillance video, in which then-officer John Doyle kicked a suspected car thief last year.

Doyle said he was afraid that the suspect had a gun.

Both Doyle and the officer holding the suspect down were fired after the incident.
