Smoke from prescribed burns still affecting area

Smoke is still plaguing the metro area as controlled burns continue just north of Albuquerque.
City meteorologists said the wind will be taking all that smoke away from the city Thursday.
The problem Wednesday morning was wind from the north blowing all that smoke directly to the metro.
It caused an air quality alert from Tuesday afternoon until mid-morning Wednesday.
"I was up in the heights and when we were out walking you could feel it and you could see it along the mountains over there so it wasn't too good," said Laurette LaBier, who had been working outside all day.
The city said that while the smoke from controlled fires can impact Albuquerque, the magnitude and duration are far less than that from an actual wildfire.
Prescribed burns are done to thin out the forest to limit the threat of monster wildfires.
