Man involved in hostage situation indicted

A Grand Jury formally accused Manuel Romero Thursday of abandoning his young daughter during a traffic stop and then holding another family hostage to avoid arrest on an outstanding warrants.

Albuquerque police attempted to pull over Romero in northwest Albuquerque last month.

but instead of complying, Romero allegedly fled from his vehicle and entered a woman's homes held her and her two children hostage.

Romero was eventually arrested, and no one was hurt. Romero now faces charges of aggravated battery, three charges of kidnapping, extortion, three counts of child abuse, tampering with evidence and resisting an arrest.

Romero will now go on to face a judge to be formally charged on the aforementioned counts.
