Parents, children and former students were out at Peppermint Stick preschool Friday showing their love and support for the school and its owner, Dermot Newman.

Showing their strength in numbers, the supporters expressed their firm belief in Newman's innocence.

He's accused of sexually assaulting a three-year-old boy inside the school.

It's an accusation the Peppermint Stick community does not believe are credible.

"We all like grew up here, there's so many kids that love this preschool and love Mr. Newman and everyone who helps out here, and it's just sad to see that it's shut down," Kylee Guinn, Newman's niece said.

"This family, this community, has been turned upside down, and parents and the kids the kids have just been affected by this teachers out of a job not only the Newman family but the Peppermint Stick family - we have teachers that were here ten years ago no longer employed still showing their support," parent Catherine Ortiz said.

The Children, Youth and Families Department temporarily closed the school earlier this week, just days after Newman's arrest.

It's unclear how long the school will remain closed.
