HOBBS, N.M. (AP) - Police in Hobbs say a 37-year-old man has died of a gunshot wound and a suspect has been jailed on murder charges.

Police said in a statement Saturday that officers found Agapito Aragonez suffering from a gunshot wound when they arrived at a home late Friday. Aragonez was taken to a Hobbs hospital and later transferred to a hospital in Lubbock, Texas, where he died.

Detectives arrested 51-year-old David Ortiz on an open murder charge. It's not clear if he has a lawyer.

Police didn't say what prompted the shooting.
