Runners got to take their dogs for the run along with them Sunday. They came out for the Doggie Dash and Dawdle at Balloon Fiesta Park.

The event raises money for Animal Humane New Mexico. The money goes to taking care of more than 5,300 pets a year.

Visitors were encouraged to bring their pets.

There was a 5k timed course and doggie carnival games.

Organizers said the event this year was the best they've had.

"We have already broken our records with our fundraising and attendance, so we are having a huge day out here and we're just so excited to be here," Animal Humane Marketing Director Dawn Glass said.

Their goal is to raise $300,000 for homeless pets - it's the largest goal they've ever set.
