This hero makes toasty scarves for the homeless

An Albuquerque woman spends her free time helping those in need and doing something she loves.
She says she got started with the help of her church and now she's helping keep Albuquerque's homeless warm.
She's this week's Hometown Hero.
"I really like crocheting, because it's calming," said JoAnne Frederickson. You may have seen her crocheting scarves outside the Smiths on Central & Coors. She does it before she clocks in, sometimes even on her lunch break.
"I do it whenever I get the chance," she said. She does it for the homeless.
"There's a lot of homeless people out there and if I can just crochet one scarf for one homeless person, just to keep 'em warmer, than it makes me feel good."
Last year, Frederickson made 118 scarves. So far this year she's at 139.
"I've seen quite a few of them, even this year, wearing them."
As for the yarn, she says she gets a lot of help from her church and the community.
"I've had people come up to me and I've had them give me bags of yarn. I've had people come up when I'm just sitting out there crocheting and they'll ask me what I'm doing so I'll tell them that I'm crocheting scarves for the homeless. They'll go inside Smith's to get whatever they need and they'll come out and say, 'Here's $5 or $10 to get more yarn.'"
Frederickson said, "And I just thank God that I can do something for somebody that's less fortunate than me."
