The University of New Mexico football team lost to UNLV on Saturday 35-7.  The Lobos found themselves down 21-0 and gave up too many big plays to the Rebels.  Running back Kasey Carrier, not 100% healthy according to Bob Davie, only rushed for 52 yards. As a team the Lobos racked up over 300 yards on the ground.

This is who the Lobos are, a rushing team. Every coach in the conference knows it by now.  UNM only threw the ball six times in Las Vegas, with only three complete passes the entire game.

"The reality hits everyone in the face as to where we are as a program," Davie said following the loss.

Reality check: the Lobos don't have a healthy, experienced quarterback that can pass.

Reality check: Cole Gautsche should be redshirting this year, but he's in there out of necessity.

Reality check: the Lobos are very young in the secondary

Reality check: this program was a dumpster fire last season and NO ONE thought they were capable of 4 wins this year.

Appreciate what you have right now Lobo fans, a program that's improving.  It's going to be a three year project to get this team competitive each week in the Mountain West, but it's headed in the right direction.

Davie continuously says his biggest challenge is the manage the environment.  Now he has three games left to keep the ship afloat down the home stretch.

The Lobos host Wyoming this Saturday.
