ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - A man police says abandoned his 2-year-old daughter during a traffic stop, then held another family hostage to avoid an arrest, has been indicted by a Bernalillo County grand jury.

The 2nd Judicial District Attorney's Office said Tuesday that Manuel Romero was indicted on a number of charges, including child abuse, extortion, and aggravated burglary.

According to Albuquerque police, officers tried to pull over Romero in Albuquerque last month but he took off from his vehicle and left his daughter behind.

Authorities say he then barged into a woman's home and held the woman and her two children hostage. He was later arrested and police discovered he had three outstanding warrants.

It was unclear if Romero had an attorney.
