A New Mexico veteran dying of brain cancer wants to make sure his longtime companion is taken care of.

Loca, who is 9, was rescued when she was a year old. Since then, she's been a therapy dog for a Vietnam veteran.

He's now in hospice and doesn't have much longer to live.

"(Loca) would make somebody an absolute cuddle bug," said Alan Duhon of New Mexico Animal Friends. "She loves to share a recliner, loves to share a bed. She's been in an apartment situation so she's used to staying at home."

Duhon says Loca is good with dogs her size, but not with smaller dogs or kids.

If you can't take Loca permanently, she is also looking for a foster home.

If you can help, call New Mexico Animal Friends here in Albuquerque at 505-881-7297.
