Three people were injured in a well site explosion Thursday near Carlsbad.

The explosion occurred  southeast of Carlsbad around 6:30 a.m. When emergency crews arrived, they found three victims, two of which were badly burned.

The victims are identified as Scott Manley, 46, of Flora Vista, Jose Betancur, 35, of Hobbs, and Gabriel Valdez, 45, of Hobbs.

All are employed by Air Tech Drilling out of Hobbs. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time, authorities say.

Two tanks partially filled with oil and two foam injection trailers were also on fire at the well site.

The cause of the explosion at fire is currently under investigation by the drilling company, XTO Hobbs. That should take several weeks.
