LAS VEGAS, N.M. (AP) - A New Mexico woman is facing charges after authorities say she tried to mail marijuana taped to a picture of a transformer to an inmate.

The Las Vegas Optic reports that 33-year-old Melissa "Fierce" Martinez was recently arrested and faces a number of charges, including conspiracy to bring contraband into a jail.

According to court documents, the Las Vegas resident was linked to the marijuana-laced letter mailed to San Miguel County Detention Center inmate Apolinario Arturo Gonzales through recorded jail conversations.

Police say that in the envelope seized by jail staff had suspected marijuana taped to a picture of a transformer.

It was unclear if Martinez had an attorney.
