State Police investigate human remains found near Carlsbad

New Mexico State Police is investigating human remains found Nov. 12 at Brantley Lake north of Carlsbad.

The remains were located in a 30-foot by 30-foot dry lake bed by hikers in an area commonly known as Champion Bay.

The scene was processed by the department's Criminal Investigations Bureau and the remains were taken to the Office of Medical Investigators in Albuquerque for positive identification and determination of cause of death.
