Airline to offer nonstop service from ABQ to NYC

JetBlue is coming to town.
The feisty airline known for low fares and customer service will begin nonstop flights between the Albuquerque Sunport and JFK International Airport in New York City starting April 23, 2013.
JetBlue is famous for its "customer bill of rights" and its one-way fares, not to mention its legroom and spacious seats on its 700 daily flights to 71 cities - soon to be 72 thanks to the airline's decision to come to Albuquerque. Mayor Richard Berry negotiated directly with the airline.
"New York City is the largest market in America," Berry said. "We can now connect directly with JetBlue and get to their hub in New York City and connect people internationally with JFK. It just got a lot easier to travel on business and tourism in and out of Albuquerque."
"The east coast opens up, New York City opens up, not just for economic development but tourism as well," said city Economic Development Director John Garcia. "It's not just us going there but it's also them coming here, so it's great news for us."
"They're just a fun airline," said city Aviation chief Jim Hinde. "Even the people we were negotiating with are fun people to be around, and that's the culture within the company."
JetBlue will get some breaks on rental space and landing fees at the Sunport, the same breaks any airline will get if they come in with new nonstop service.
