Something good has come out of something bad in Carlsbad.

Thieves broke into the hands of hope food bank and stole $1,500 worth of food that's supposed to go to the needy, but that's not setting back the community and the people that work there.

"You look at something like this as a terrible thing to happen but after this morning I'm saying its a great thing to happen because the community and the people are aware of what we're doing and they're contributing and it's just wonderful," Terry Catlin said.

Police said the thieves tore out the air conditioning unit at the food bank and passed the food out through the hole.
