SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A 27-year-old Santa Fe man who pleaded guilty to a series of charges that included leaving the scene of a fatal accident has been sentenced to five years in prison.

The sentencing for Leandro Anaya on Friday included tearful testimony from the sister of hit-and-run victim William "Billy" Schroeder and a lecture from the judge for Anaya.

District Judge Mary Marlowe-Sommer told Anaya she didn't believe he was sorry and ordered him to turn and face Schroeder's family and apologize.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports Anaya told the family he didn't just leave the 50-year-old lying in the road because another car had stopped to help after he was run over.

He said he didn't hit Schroeder first and was afraid. Anaya pleaded guilty to nine felony charges.
