Dozens of students tested out their latest eco-friendly creations Saturday. Students from all around New Mexico raced their cars at Highland High School.

It was part of the Alternative Fuels Challenge.

Teams put together small hydrogen-fueled cars and raced them on a 30-foot track.

"You usually connect two wires of the car to the battery pack, and you click a button and it usually goes pretty well," student Shelly Doyle said.

Doyle said it took her team five weeks to build their car.

Kennedy Middle School ended up winning the overall challenge.
