ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - An independent commission meets next month to evaluate candidates for two vacant state district judgeships in Albuquerque.

The Judicial Nominating Commission will recommend lawyers to Republican Gov. Susana Martinez for possible appointment to the 2nd Judicial District court.

The vacancies were caused by the death of District Judge Bob Schwartz and the election of District Judge M. Monica Zamora to the state Court of Appeals.

Applications must be filed with the commission by Nov. 30, and the bipartisan panel meets Dec. 11 at the Bernalillo County Courthouse in Albuquerque to consider the candidates.

The governor's appointees to the court will be required to run in a partisan election in 2014 to keep their jobs.
