Remains near Carlsbad identified as missing man, 29

The Office of the Medical Investigator has indentified human remains found in Carlsbad on Nov. 12 as thos of Eric Ahlskog, 29, of Carlsbad. 

Ahlskog's family had reported him missing last year, telling police they last saw him near the lake at approximately 3 a.m. on Sunday, July 3, 2011.

On Nov. 12, the Eddy County Sheriff's Department called New Mexico State Police to investigate the remains, which were found at Brantley Lake north of Carlsbad.

The remains were located in a 30 foot by 30 foot dry lake bed by some hikers in an area commonly known as Champion Bay.

The scene was processed by the New Mexico State Police Criminal Investigations Bureau and the remains were taken to the Office of Medical Investigator in Albuquerque for positive identification. 

An investigation into Ahlskog's cause of death is continuing.
