An Albuquerque man accused of a murder dating back to 1991 is being held on a cash-only bond.

Police said Lawrence Scherer admitted to stabbing Roger Alderman to death at his home in 1991. Scherer was living with Alderman at the time. Scherer told investigators Alderman wanted to have sex with him and when Scherer refused Alderman attacked him. Scherer said the stabbing was in self defense.

A judge Monday kept Scherer's bond at one million dollars, cash only.
