Albuquerque police say they are still investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that happened Tuesday on the West Side.

Police tell us that the person who died at the scene was Lester Pino, 43.

They say Pino was attempting to cross Coors outside of a crosswalk, in the dark at approximately 5:30 a.m. when he was hit.

According to preliminary reports, Edward Shealy, 52, was traveling north on Coors in a red Ford pickup truck when his vehicle struck Pino.

Shealy stated that he did not see Pino in the roadway before the collision.

Police are still investigating all contributing factors in this crash, including the possibility that the driver may have been under the influence of drugs or medication at the time of the crash.

Investigators are waiting for toxicology results for Shealy and have sealed his vehicle pending the execution of a search warrant.

The case will be completed and then forwarded to the District Attorney’s office for review.
