When shoppers swarm the malls Friday morning, police will be among the crowd.

Some will be easy to spot, some not as the Albuquerque Police Department's citywide operation gets underway.

"Plain clothes officers in uniform, mounted units, officers on bikes, officers on foot as well as the arial support  unit of APD. So, 35 days left, we want people to go out and shop and be safe," APD Chief Ray Schultz said.

"There's a lot of people, a lot of undercover oficers that are here for the holiday season and for all you would-be thieves, look out because we're gonna get you bad apples," Randy Sanchez of Coronado Mall said.

A lot of the focus is on the parking lots where break-in artists love to separate people from the stuff they buy.

Police will have bait cars loaded with bait merchandise to attract bandits like rats on cheese.
