TAOS, N.M. (AP) - Skiers and snowboarders looking to the hit the slopes during the Thanksgiving Day holiday weekend now have some options in northern New Mexico.

Ski New Mexico says Taos Ski Valley and Red River opened Thursday. They join Sipapu, which was the first New Mexico resort to open last weekend.

Angel Fire Resort, Sandia Peak, Ski Apache and Pajarito are among those planning December opening dates.

With the exception of one storm that brought rain and some snow to western New Mexico earlier this month, the beginning of the snow season hasn't been promising.

Hydrologists say New Mexico is already starting off with half of the average snowpack for this time of year.
