Albuquerque police arrested a man they say stole a bait truck.

The incident occurred just before 10:00 p.m. Friday.

Police told KOB Eyewitness News 4 a man stole a bait truck they had in a hotel parking lot.

Once they were alerted it had been stolen, officers on the ground and in the air started following. The driver took off down southbound Interstate 25.

One officer said they were about to shut the truck off before the man stole it. "He decided to go off-roading as you can tell," Lt. Scott Lopez said. "He went down a 20 foot embankment and across the mesa then decided to run on foot."

The department's helicopter was able to locate the man about a mile away hiding in someone's backyard.
