Volunteers share Thanksgiving feast with Roswell community

Hundreds of Roswell residents came together to celebrate Thanksgiving with a free meal.
Area families donated the food, turkeys were cooked by hospitals and restaurants with industrial kitchens, and 75 volunteers served food and set the mood for a community celebration.
It was open to anyone – hungry or just in need of a friend to eat with – and more than 700 people streamed through the doors.
“The people hugging each other, loving each other, that was the most beautiful thing,” Johnny Gonzales, who organizes a community meal each year, said. “It was that love, fellowship, the kids serving – everybody being a family, in the city of Roswell, you know.”
Christian ministry groups played music and encouraged people to meet one another. Volunteers said it gave them a chance to be a part of something.
“I feel like I'm actually helping people out one person at a time,” volunteer Terrell Peterson said.
Peterson came from the Roswell Job Corps group, which contributed time and talent throughout the week to get the meal ready.
Gonzales said it was amazing to see everyone pull together to make it happen.
“I just want to thank the community of Roswell, you know, for coming together.” Gonzales said.
