Lots of people with great optimism are buying tickets in New Mexico, hoping to hit it big in the $550 million Powerball lottery Wednesday.

A winner hasn't been announced since Oct. 6. But the odds are up to 60 percent that a winning ticket will be named Wednesday night.

This go-round is expected to generate more than $1 billion in sales.

"Every time it goes really high, we purchase tickets," said Marcie McClaflin. "They want me to buy the tickets because I'm really lucky at the casino, so, hey, got the lucky numbers right here."

In New Mexico, one dollar of a $2 Powerball ticket goes straight to state government.

One winner could take home $327 million before taxes.

Tickets can be bought until 8 p.m.
