Plea agreement over NMFA fake audit coming Thursday

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A state official says the former controller of the New Mexico Finance Authority is expected to plead guilty to charges of forgery and securities fraud for faking the agency's financial audit earlier this year.
Regulation and Licensing Department spokeswoman Bernice Geiger confirmed Thursday that prosecutors have reached an agreement with ex-controller Greg Campbell to plead guilty to two counts of forgery and one count of securities fraud.
Campbell faces up to six years in prison but a judge will determine his sentence.
Campbell is to appear in state district court Thursday afternoon on the plea agreement, which becomes final after Campbell's pleas are accepted by the judge.
Campbell left the authority in June. His lawyer did not immediately return a telephone call to his office about the plea agreement.
