Tucumcari teen could face adult sentence in 2 deaths

TUCUMCARI, N.M. (AP) - Prosecutors say they'll pursue an adult sentence for a 14-year-old eastern New Mexico teenager who state police reports say admitted fatally shooting his adoptive mother and stabbing his adoptive sister to death.
The 10th Judicial District's chief deputy district attorney filed a notice to treat the boy as a youthful offender.
Prosecutor Timothy Rose tells the Albuquerque Journal the teen could receive the maximum adult penalty of life in prison if he's convicted.
The boy is not being identified by The Associated Press because of his age.
Officers were called to a home outside Tucumcari late Monday and found the bodies of 67-year-old Sue Day and her biological daughter, 49-year-old Sherry Folts.
His public defender did not immediately return a call seeking comment on Friday.
