Bernalillo County election workers tally unopened ballots

Some Bernalillo County voters' voices did not count on Election Day.
Over a hundred absentee ballots were left in a box that remained unopened until last week.
Deputy County Clerk Roman Montoya said election staff members were looking through a box full of empty, counted ballot envelopes when they stumbled upon more than 100 unopened absentee ballot envelopes mixed in.
He doesn't how election workers missed the ballots.
"Obviously one of our procedures did not work. We have not had time to access what it is yet," he said.
Saturday morning election workers opened those ballots and tallied their votes one by one.
"We want to make sure they do get their vote counted after all," he said. "The integrity of the election is upmost important to this office. "
Even so, Montoya said the mistake won't impact any races.
Montoysa said election workers have sifted through all the other bins and didn't find any more ballots.
"We always want to make sure to do what's right and what's fair and mistakes happen," Roman said. "We apologize for that happening."
The results of the ballots will be released Monday. They will also be forwarded to the Secretary of State's office.
