ROSWELL, N.M. (AP) - The Federal Bureau of Investigation is meeting with a number of New Mexico law enforcement agencies about two homicides in Chaves County and the shooting of a deputy.

The Roswell Daily Record reports that the FBI is meeting with the Hobbs police, New Mexico State Police, Eddy and Lea County Sheriff Departments about the two bodies found last month.

Authorities say Lea County Sheriff's Sgt. Michael Tovar was shot in the arm and neck while trying to execute a search warrant in Hobbs in connection with the homicides.

Two men were later arrested in connection with the deputy's shooting.

Last month, a man's body was found smoldering along a road near Lake Arthur. The body of 48-year-old Mark T. Walters III also was found near an oilfield site.
