SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A state Court of Appeals judge who lost in the general election is among three candidates recommended to Republican Gov. Susana Martinez for possible appointment to an upcoming vacancy on the court.

A Judicial Nominating Commission on Tuesday recommended Judge J. Miles Hanisee, Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court Judge Judith Nakamura and state Administrative Office of the Courts Director Arthur Pepin.

They were among seven applicants for a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Celia Foy Castillo at the end of this year.

Hanisee was named to the appeals court last year by Martinez but was defeated in the general election by Democrat Monica Zamora, who has not yet taken office.

Hanisee is a Republican and a former federal prosecutor. He received his law degree from Pepperdine University.
