ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Authorities say a man accused of killing a nun on the Navajo Nation tried to set the bed sheets in his cell on fire this week.

Santa Fe sheriff's Lt. William Pacheco says 21-year-old Reehahlio Carroll now faces a petty misdemeanor arson charge.

Pacheco tells the Albuquerque Journal  that the damage to Carroll's cell and bed is estimated at $100. Authorities say the fire quickly was extinguished Tuesday. Carroll was treated at a local hospital for smoke inhalation.

Federal prosecutors allege Carroll broke into the trailer home of 64-year-old Sister Marguerite Bartz in 2009 and attacked her when she confronted him. If convicted, Carroll faces life in prison without parole. He has pleaded not guilty.
