Bernalillo County officials are making changes to the county's animal laws.

County commissioners approved an ordinance to limit the confinement of dogs.

As part of the changes, people can no longer have their dogs tethered up using cable trolleys, but owners will be able to tether up their dogs using two fixed points.

Dog owners will have to justify why they're tying up the dog to get waiver. The ordinance also requires people to get their dogs and cats microchipped.

Animal control officers will be enforcing the ordinance.
