A Rio Rancho Police officer has been arrested for domestic assault following a incident early Monday.

Police say Officer Robert Rosales, 38, was arrested at about 3 a.m. Monday after police responded to an open line 911 call from a home on Marino Drive in Rio Rancho.

Over the open line, dispatchers could hear a female telling a male to "give her the gun."

When officers arrived, they found that a domestic assault had occurred in the residence during which the suspect threatened the female with a handgun.

Officer Rosales is a 10-year veteran of the Rio Rancho Police Department.

He is currently on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal and Internal Affairs investigation.
