City: Fired former APD union president has right to appeal for his job

An APD spokeswoman told KOB that former Albuquerque police union president Joey Sigala will not automatically get his job back but has a right to appeal his firing by the city.
This comes after news that a domestic violence case against Sigala has been dropped.
Back in May, Sigala had been charged with aggravated burglary and false imprisonment after authorities say he struck his wife, Ashley, in the face.
Police say Sigala accused his wife of cheating on him before taking her public assistance benefits card and throwing a cellphone charger at her.
He was then fired from by APD in July.
On Monday, a judge dropped the domestic abuse case after Sigala's wife refused to testify.
Sigala had no comment Monday.
But in October, he asked the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy for leniency over a consideration to revoke his license.
APD spokewoman Tasia Martinez said Sigala has a right to appeal to the city for his job. Sigala served eight years on the force.
