The city of Rio Rancho has made some big changes to its animal ordinance.

City councilors lifted a ban that was to go into effect soon on selling cats and dogs in pet stores.

Supporters of the ban argued that pet shops support puppy mills, but opponents of the ban thought it would have been bad for business.

Additionally, dogs will not be required to be spayed or neutered in Rio Rancho. Cats, however, will be.
